New social networks seem to pop up every day, each one claiming to have a specific and novel purpose. The dominant forces, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc, are well established, but sometimes the streams of varied content (and advertisements) can become overwhelming. What's an internet savvy foodie to do when all they want is to make some new friends over a great meal? That is the problem that Blend About seeks to answer. The new social network focuses on connecting users with fellow diners in their area, by streamlining the process of making connections and reservations, believing that "Great Food + Great People = the Ultimate Pairing".
Blend About, "is a social dining website that uses patent-pending technology to match people into groups for lunch and dinner events based on location, common interests and foodie style." The social network, founded by CEO Kate Spivak, with the goal of using online social networking to create real, offline connections between users. You can sign up for free, and then pay a subscription fee to be matched up with diners in your area. That sounds odd compared to traditional social networks, which are largely free and generate revenue from advertisements. However, Blend About takes your information (interests, food preferences, location), pairs you with diners in your area, and actually books the reservation for your group of up to 6 members, so for some it may be worth the fee.
So what do you think? Is Blend About the serious foodies new favorite network? Or are the established players already filling the void? Let us know what you think on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
