Google+ is often regarded as the red-headed step child of social networks. Though it's user base appears to be growing, it has not yet become the household names that are Facebook and Twitter. Lately though, analysts have been paying close attention to the quality of the network's users as it pertains to marketing. New research, as reported by Mashable, shows that Google+ may actually be one of the more important networks to focus your social media strategies.
New statistics, based on a study of 60,000 online adults in the United States, shows that 22% of respondents have visited Google+ in the last month, the same number that reported visiting Twitter. Surprisingly, those numbers exceed the participation numbers for LinkedIn, Pinterest and even Instagram, the very popular, Facebook owned photo sharing network. Analysts also looked at more than 3 million user interactions with branded pages, and more than 2500 brand posts. Their research shows the brands studied have more followers on Google+ than on Youtube, Pinterest and Instagram combined. Most importantly, brands' posts on Google+ scored almost as high as on Facebook in terms of engagement, and posts on Google's network received twice as much engagement as those posted to Twitter.
Bottom line, if you haven't started taking a serious look at your presence on Google+, now is definitely the time.
