As the Washington Post reports, restaurant chain Timbre in Singapore has started testing the use of drones in one of their locations, set to go into service very soon. Drones have gotten a lot of attention in the last few years, especially as the popularity of consumer models grows. The futuristic quad-copters range in size and capability from palm-sized indoor units, to military grade professional equipment. The drones Timbre will be using are likely closer to the former, but the question is the same, are people ready for drones delivering their drinks? Well, to start, the drones, developed by Infinitum Robotics, won't actually be delivering drinks directly to tables. The drones sit in the kitchen, where they charge while inactive, and once a chef places drinks or food on the drone, they press a button which will prompt the machine to navigate its way to a wait station, where a server will pick up the items and deliver them to the customer. The flying machines will maintain an altitude of at least 8.5 feet to stay above foot traffic and ensure safety, and are programmed for their specific environment. What do you think? Are we ready for the next step in restaurant technology, or is the idea of a drone flying above you indoor just too futuristic? Let us know what you think via Facebook, Google+, and Twitter!
