A new San Francisco based start-up, called 6SensorLabs, has recently raised funding to manufacture a small, personal device called Canary. The portable device can detect Gluten in foods and beverages, and is aimed at helping those with celiac, or those simply avoiding gluten, gain more knowledge about the products and restaurant dishes they consume.
Canary works with small, one time use units that are placed in the food or beverage for testing. The device itself costs $150, no word on the cost of the disposable testing units. While for now the comapny seems to be focused on gluten, future models could potentially test for other allergens and ingredients. The company also plans on building a mobile application, so that users can share their results via social media channels, and help spread the word about celiac-friendly dishes.
What do you think, would you buy something like Canary to help test for allergens? Let us know what you think via Facebook, Twitter & Google+.
