When it comes to Do It Yourself projects, we know there are a lot of variables, and a lot of effort goes into the design and build process. That being said, the rewards from going the DIY route can be plentiful! One of our customers searched high and low for the perfect, small bistro table to fit in a bay window, and was unable to find a complete table that fit her style, space and budget. This is where DIY really comes into it's own! With the help of Craigslist and Tablebases.com, Brooke was able to make a custom bistro table that is beautiful, functional, and most importantly, way under budget! Read on for photos and the full story.
Below is a brief summary of Brooke's post, "Kitchen Table", from September 2013. For the full text, check out bythebrooke.blogspot.com, or click the source link at the bottom of this post. Brooke was searching for a small bistro style table to fit in the bay window area of her family's kitchen, 30" in diameter at the most. Brooke looked around the internet for inspiration, and decided she wanted a white marble table top. After searching online, she found a few options that would fit the space and her style perfectly, however, the options she found were either no longer being sold, or were far too expensive. Complete table sets ranged from about $500 to $900.

After waiting patiently for a suitable option to go on sale, she decided to turn to Craigslist for an affordable alternative. Unfortunately, while the used tables online fit her budget, they were never quite perfect. Either they were the wrong size, wrong height, or the style just didn't work. After a brainstorm, Brooke decided she would buy a used table with the right top, and then purchase a base separately. She found a vintage side table online for $40, and while it was too low, and the base was not quite her style, she was determined to make it work! Not only was the top the perfect size and color, it still had the markings from Italy on the underside, so she knew it was genuine imported marble.

After being dissatisfied with her local restaurant supply's limited, and commercial looking, selection of table bases, she did a quick search online and found Tablebases.com. A quick look around our website, and she found it, the one! Our Bistro 4 table base (shown above) was a perfect fit in terms of looks, price, and it's ability to support heavy marble table tops.

Compared to her search for the perfect table, putting the new table together was a breeze. After all was said and done, she spent less than half of what she would have on the complete tables she found online, and the result is a completely custom unit that is beautiful, functional, and unique to her home.
If you're looking for the perfect table for your home, consider purchasing your table top and base separately! You can save money, have fun creating your own custom table, and end up with something that you won't see anywhere else. If you've used our bases to create your perfect custom table, be sure to send us photographs and a description of the project! We'll post photos on our blog and social media pages, to help inspire and guide future DIYers.
