Prohibition is long gone, and it is no secret that Americans (of proper age, of course) love their drinks. Just how much they love them may come as a shock! Blowfish's intoxication Nation has put together a fun and fact packed info graphic, detailing America's drinking habits on a state by state level. The results are both entertaining and unexpected. Restauranteurs should take note, and stay one step ahead of these trends.
According to Blowfish's information, American's have no idea how much they actually drink. Most respondents reported drinking approximately 277 drinks per year, while the reality is that each person, on average, has 819. That is a huge disparity, although as with most things relating to alcohol, inaccurate self reporting is to be expected. The top drinks nationwide are, respectively, beer, vodka and red wine, though not in West Virginia, where White Wine takes the gold, or ahem, champagne, trophy. The info graphic goes on to break down drinking habits by state, gender and profession, and even reports on hangovers! Spoiler alert, Washington D.C. complains the loudest about their day-after-drinking headaches.
These facts and figures can hopefully help restauranteurs and bar owners hone in on which drinks their customers want, but there is another interesting statistic that those in the industry should pay attention to: Servers were noted as the profession most likely to be hungover on the job! If you've noticed the problem at your restaurant, maybe you should stock up on vitamin C and water bottles for your staff. The full report is extremely thorough, so click the source link for the full details.
