American consumers have shown that craft brews certainly have a place in their hearts (and stomachs), but just how much would you pay for your favorite brew? A new bottling, released last month by the young Moody Tongue brewery, is pushing the envelope, with expensive and exotic ingredients that push their bottles to $120 for 22 ounces of beer. While craft brews are often on the more expensive side - an unavoidable byproduct of smaller scale operations - asking more than a Benjamin for a single bottle is jaw-dropping excessive. Or is it?

As reported by Grub Street, Jared Rouben, head of Chicago based "culinary brewing" company Moody Tongue, has created a line of boutique brews aimed at high-brow beer connoisseurs. One of their first brews is a pilsner, infused with Perigord-truffles from Australia. Made from German hops, Pilsen Malt, and truffles hand shaved by Rouben himself, the luxurious brew made its debut last month at Per Se, accompanied by truffle pudding and bitter chocolate. Moody Tongue's truffle beer is a limited run, only 40 barrels were produced, the final destinations of which are unknown, though it is a safe bet to assume that Michelin star restaurants will get first dibs. Moody Tongue has also produced a few other brews, including a Belgian ale with paw-paw and a coriander wheat beer.
