Wine is an important part of dining out for a lot of people. While beer and cider have their appropriate food pairings, and even mocktails are making a splash as the craft drinks scene really heats up, there is still nothing quite like a perfectly paired bottle of wine with your entrée. While Wine Spectator has been compiling a list of the best restaurant wine lists for some time, London based The World of Fine Wine recently introduced a 3 star rating system for wine lists.
As Nations Restaurant News Reports, The World of Fine Wine recently reviewed 4000 wine lists that were submitted by restaurants, and picked the 750 best lists to rate. Of those, 225 restaurant wine lists received 3 stars. Surprisingly (or perhaps not, given the number of restaurants) New York City, not Paris or Barcelona, saw the largest number of restaurants rated 3 stars, at 36 total. London came in second with 16.
Judging criteria includes "breadth and depth of the range", as well as "creativity, relevance to the cuisine, personality and price". The whose-who lists are broken down by region, as well as other sub-categories. The overall winner? Palais Coburg Residenz in Vienna, which received the Best List in the World award.
