Gluten-Free Options Rapidly Increasing

The gluten-free trend has been sweeping the nation for the last several years, and consumers now have a lot of choices when it comes to gluten-free food products. Even those that do not suffer from gluten-intolerance or celiac disease have begun jumping on the bandwagon. As Food+Tech Connect reports, SpecialtyFoods.com has put together a handy infographic that shows the rapid expansion of this once niche, now mainstream market.

"Gluten-free" is now a $10.5 billion industry, with over 1,500 new products introduced between 2011-2013. That represents a nearly 50% growth, thanks to the wealth of new flour, cracker, and even frozen food options. According to the data represented, 56% of consumers prefer to purchase their gluten-free items at health food stores, and nearly one third of consumers stay away from gluten to help with weight loss.
